Universities see sharp drop in computer science majors: good for me!
Here is the latest news and how I think it is a good thing instead of a bad growth:
Computer science and computer engineering jobs are some of the fastest-growing occupations in the nation, according to the U.S Department of Labor. So why are university computer science departments watching their enrollments slide?
Here is the reason why:
Due to the increase of employers awareness regarding candidates qualifications and candidates dream crash of a high-pay start salary, many perspective students no longer see IT as a dream job, despite their interests to the field.
In other words, in my graduation class, more than 80% of my class were not ready for real life nor the love for the field. The main reason why they majored in computer science is for the money.
Sure you can pass college exams, all you have to do is read the material and memorize, while that doesn’t challenge experience you have or the ability to learn new-updated technologies by yourself.
In my opinion, the decrease of enrollment indicates a purification process of true IT students are only enrolled in the field. That was my two cents.
