Summary of Web 2.0 improvements
Things are getting really interesting regarding Web 2.0 tools, such as Gmail, Youtube, CNBC, Yahoo TV, and so on.. But the improovments that I am mostly amazed with are Gmail Mail Fetcher, Youtube’s Quick Cature and Streams.
Let me explain each one here, basically Gmail Mail Fetcher feature allows you as a Gmail user to access your other email accounts from within the Gmail interface. Example, you can access your Work emails from the actual Gmail interface…how nice is that? Well, you may not try it now till they release this feature to the public.
Youtube Youtube Youtube, the $1.65 billion dollar deal and its new features. Now you can use your webcram to record directly to youtube without using a middle application to do that for you, in other words just click record on youtube’s site and there you will be making a video on the spot, how cool is that? And the other great feature is streams, let me have TechCrunch explain what it is:
Streams is a feature still being tested in YouTube’s lab, called TestTube. Users can create and/or join themed “rooms†that have a number of videos lined up at the top. All users in the room participate in a group chat, and users can add their own videos to the queue. It’s an interesting feature, and I wouldn’t mind having a chat box on every YouTube video. But at the end of the day, “time shifted chatâ€, or the comments left on videos, are a more interesting way to discuss them. I’m not as excited by it as other bloggers, and my guess is Streams doesn’t make it out of the lab, or will have limited appeal to YouTube users.
There are other sites that came up with significant improvements as well, such as Yahoo TV, CNBC.com, VOX, etc… I think many more will be coming so let’s not hold our breath…don’t you just love web 2.0?
