Must Read! Time Magazine on that platform battle

Time Magazine has a must-read piece on the battle between Google, Facebook and Apple to build the best platform. The story looks at the open-vs-closed approach, the mobile-vs-tethered schools of thought, and why Google seems to be playing catchup instead of leading the way.

I did discuss in previous posts about how Facebook will lose the platform battle if they keep sticking to the current “closed” platform, while Google will definitely dominate the market since many facebook competitors are merging/joining Google’s initiative on open platform usability.

As for Apple, never predicted they will be listed as one of the web contendetrs. Always looked at Apple as leaders in Hardware & OS and nothing else. But surprisingly, not anymore, TImes magazine listed them in this article as one of the top 3 out there. With the launch of iPhone and opening it’s platform with SDK which allows to extend the iPhone usability to something like social network world, this for sure nominates Apple to be number 1 on the mobile side, but not the Internet world yet since there is no prominent presence (yet).

But then, there is Android, so I am not sure anymore. Will Android’s opengl beat the cocoa engine on

iPhone? And will the iPhone be able to stand against Android’s open platform?

We just have to wait and see
