Meebo IM Launches new things
I’ve always loved meebo since it came out. With the ease of use, thanks to Ajax, and liability of the service, I was able to combine all of my IM accountS into one single logon. And with that logon I am able to check my IMs from anywhere in the world, where I dont have to download my msn messenger, gtalk, yahoo, aim, and even ICQ.. HA HA!
But anyway, just to keep you updated and such, Meebo is planning or working on introducing meebo mobile, which I think will jump up their share market another 30% at least.
Anyway, I found this article from mashable.com regarding new meebo’s outfit, and I thought you might be interested, here it is:
Â
Meebo, the popular web-based IM client, came out of alpha last night and skipped to a 1.0 release. The improvements include a new look that’s much cleaner - if you liked the old design, however, you can revert to “classicâ€. In fact, “skins†are a whole new part of Meebo, and soon you’ll be able to choose from a variety of them - this kind of personalization is extremely smart, since it gives users more freedom. For me, however, the most important new feature is a “pop-out†button that launches the Meebo IM client in a new window - this makes it behave much more like a traditional desktop IM. More neat stuff: the ability to arrange your buddies into groups using a drag-and-drop interface, and the ability to sign on and off from individual screen names.
They’ve gone international, too, localizing the experience yet further for non-English users. Other minor improvements include the addition of AIM profiles, a facelift for the chat logs and a much faster experience overall.
Meebo is on a roll right now. Back in July, they added the MeeboIM to the Netvibes startpage, while in August they launched MeeboMe, an extremely useful widget that allows visitors to your blog or MySpace page to leave messages. These new features can only continue that momentum.
Rivals include eBuddy (formerly e-Messenger), KoolIM and Mabber. A new service, RadiusIM, combines a Meebo-like service with mapping. Other rivals don’t aggregate multiple IM services: MessengerFX, for instance, simply puts MSN Messenger on a web page. Meebo and eBuddy seem to be the leaders in this space, although it’s incredibly difficult to get good stats about any of these services.
