From my old notes: Key Elements of Web Service Success
ha ha, right after I got back from dropping Mohamed Nanahbay to the airport.. my wife asked me if I still want this paper otherwise she will toss it away… and I was like, hmm let me see what it is first… and it was actually notes of my thoughts of how Web Service can succeed (2 year old..)
Well here it is:
- The more personal information store on the service, the stronger their loyalty. Example: Pictures, birthdays, reminders, bookmarets, videos, etc.
Example of this is CyWorld.com: Believe it or not, this korean web-service, receives more than 6.2 million pictures from its members a day.. and the source of the pictures are Cameras, cell phones, computers, etc.
- To increase popularity of social networking is the chain of "Wave-riding". All items on all sites should eventually lead to a profile of user or group of users. So guess what I meant with this was, there should not be a dead-end of where the user can go. Every item should lead to another, which will increase hits & better user experience.
- Photos, music, and video is becoming the medium of people self-expression. I know you already know this and it is pretty common, but it wasn’t two years ago when I wrote this.
- Platforms needs to be allow unrestricted self-expression. The art form of self-expression has become the "new-media". And social networks has become the distrubution channels.
- Self expression was never provided before or this extend: email, chat rooms, and IM. I have no clue what I was trying to say over here.
New Media Ideas:
-There is naver.com, which is a korean website prior, yahoo Korea was dominatingthe market. But naver.com came in with full media platform.
Example of its success: 44 million poplulation of Kora. More than 75% of the population uses internet, and believe it or not that more than 80% of the Internet users (around 60 million) use naver.com as their main portal.
The portal includes the following:
1. Mail
2. SMS Service
3. News
4.Videos
5. Children Education System: Provide games, children music, anything that is non-boring. The reason why naver concentrated on this is because having a focus on kids, kids will attract mother / father/ brother / sister / etc and PLUS they are the new generation
6. News mailing system: with feedback system
7. News drive by web-users: Example digg.com
8. Misc. tools: finance, stock, weather, etc
9. Assist in creating relationship among students, parents, and schoool teachers.

->And then on the side note: Focus on keeping returning users % high.

-> Cyworld.com: failed in US us.cyworld.com
That’s the end of my notes on a single piece of paper… interesting huh? Now I am gonna toss it away…
