FOWA Session ~ Facebook Platform!
What is going on with a facebook. Apparently it is a company that builds software. The growth went from 8 million to active 23 million in less than a year, so yeah they are doubling every 6 months. And every single user comes back every single day.
And hey, it is more about International than ever, actually half of its users are outside United States. Page views? they have about 60 million billion pages served every month. And so it makes it the 6th most visited site on the Internet.
Facebook concentrate on something called social Graph / Multiplexity (just made that word up). Which allows a user to expand his/her network reach through domino’s effect.
Ha ha! facebook photos app. is the most visited photo sharing app on the Internet (Which means it beats hands down flickr, picaso, etc). Even Facebook events beats any other application out there. And all of that, thanks to social multiplexity.
Advice: on canvas page, it is better to show what is going on with your application in a social sense. Example, who added who, latest comments, etc.
Growth ~ Engagement ~ Monetization — that is the opportunity every 3rd party app will have. But hey, good luck with that, because in 3 months, they have more 5000 applications that is out there. 100 applications a day get built, and have more than 9,000 registered developers ( I am one of them ). You can always become one by going to http://www.facebook.com/developers
And the session is over.
Q&A time: iPhone App? Check out iPhone App!
Q&A: How fast are you guys in developing? Hmm, we are still pretty small company. We have 300 employees, and that includes 100 engineers. “ahem”.
Q&A: How did you guys scale so fast and large? We have lots of servers…
Q&A: How to build APIs? Been looking at other popular APIs out there at the beginning. But then took a precautious way of developing..making sure the functions/classes/code is clean and well documented.
