Facebook Open Platform Architecture vs. Google OpenSocial
I guess I was kinda mistaken earlier when I mentioned that Facebook refused to join Google OpenSocial initiave or even offer full APIs due to its arrogance & ignorance.
But I was on the spot when I said “Facebook believe it is the most popular social platform and so it doesn’t need to join OpenSocial and it is better off alone”
Facebook has decided to counter-attack Google by offering its benefits of their work by enabling other social sites to use Facebook platform architecture as a model, which is a great news!
Now, what that means is that Facebook is trying to compete with Google’s OpenSocial initiatve on which platform to be widely used across social communities. And it seems like that Facebook think they already won this. But apparently, that’s not what it seems like on the reality.
The Web Sphere believe that Google has checkmated Facebook in the social networking power struggle by having MySpace and Six Apart, Orkut, Salesforce, LinkedIn, Ning, Hi5, Plaxo, Friendster, Viadeo and Oracle joining OpenSocial initiatve.
So, with all of those major social networks joining Google’s OpenSocial initiatve and “almost” none of them will be using FB platform, does Facebook have a chance now?
In my opinion, I think Facebook is better off in joining the OpenSocial initiave because the future of the Social Networks will be based on a distrubted model. Otherwise they will be out of the league.
