Apple’s MobileMe: Failed to launch

MobileMeOther than being all excited for my new email address: morad [at] me.com, the service is almost unusable.

Facing difficulties with syncing my data with mobileme, as some data tends to not sync without warning. And that is something that cannot be tolerated, specially to people who use iPhone as a business device “I think that is a premature move”.

Well, it was a big deal when Apple announced “mobileme” service which cost at least $100 which would bring corporate-type synchrnoization of email, calendars, and contacts to anyone. And what made this service shine more is that “mobileme” would bring ActiveSync features into it as well as “mobileme” will be compatible across all OS platforms includng “iPhone” and “iPod touch”.

So yes, based on the above description, this makes “mobileme” the magic service that everyone wants to get their hands on to keep them synced up across all of their devices. But then, how about when the core function of the service doesn’t work. Here is an example: Using two macs “mac pro & macbook air” and one iPhone, I kept facing problem after problem. One big issue is that while changes made on the Web site or the iPhone are instantly pushed to the computers, changes made on computers are only synced every 15 minutes, at best.

Also, the “mobileme” website is full of bugs/flaws. Where “calendar’ doesn’t load events in a right format. As for the Mail app, issues happen when Rules are deployed which causes MobileMe mail some confusion.

So am I going to pay $100 after the trial ends? hmm, knowing Apple and how it seeks perfection and of course I don’t want to lose my lucky email address… the answer yes. But will email be my primary one? Not sure about that yet, as I am addicted to gmail web interface… but then that is where iPhone can replace it.
